Base pay range

$22.85/hr - $22.85/hr

Position Function - Under the direction of the Street/Drainage Supervisor, performs duties necessary to support the Street/Drainage division to ensure the proper construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, roadways, bridges, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drainage systems, and right-of-ways. Performs as the lead heavy equipment operator.

Essential Duties % of Performance

Performs assigned duties necessary to support the Street/Drainage Division by ensuring the proper construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, roadways, bridges, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drainage systems, and right-of-ways. Duties include, but are not limited to: daily pre-use inspection of heavy equipment; preparation and loading of necessary materials for heavy equipment operation; safe, efficient operation of heavy equipment; and daily post-use maintenance and inspection of heavy equipment. Responsible for ensuring work site safety and traffic control by setting up work site within rules/regulations/SOP's, and appropriate usage of equipment. 80%

Performs duties necessary to support the Streets and Drainage division by assisting crews with manual labor, responding to after hour calls and during emergency situations, and performing minor repairs and maintenance on various equipment and vehicles.

May be required to assist other City departments. Performs all duties assigned to the crew he/she leads to include, but limited to: manual labor, heavy equipment operations, etc. 15%

Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling/Reaching/Handling - Up to 100lbs - work aids, equipment, tools, materials, set-up/tear-down worksite, construction, trash/debris removal, concrete/asphalt work, etc.

Standing - Concrete/asphalt work, trash/debris removal, setting up/tearing down work area, etc.

Talking - Communication with co-workers, supervisor, and customers, two-way radios, phone, etc.

Vision - driving, equipment, hand tools, power tools, etc.

Walking - to and from shop, to and from buildings, at worksite, trash/debris removal, concrete/asphalt work, uneven terrain, etc.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and/or Work Aids

Heavy equipment, vehicle, hand-held and power tools and equipment, hard hat, safety and/or protective clothing (e.g., hardhat, goggles, gloves, ear, etc.), steel-toed or composite-toed safety boots/shoes, mobile communication devices, etc.

Environment

Duties are performed primarily within an outdoor environment or setting. Possible exposure to electrical and chemical hazards, water, sewage, vibrations, loud noise, inclement weather, dust, allergens, and mold.

Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Required knowledge and experience is normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School diploma or GED, and a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in Transportation Construction or a related field is required.

Valid State of Texas Class A CDL is required.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees and officials, and the general public.

Ability to take and follow oral instructions, as well as hand signals.

Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to properly operate heavy equipment.

Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials and practices with particular emphasis on transportation and/or utility construction and repair.

Thorough knowledge of work place safety practices and procedures, including but not limited to: lockout/tagout, traffic safety, spotting, etc.

Must be able to work "on-call" or emergency hours.

Must be able to work outside normal business hours.

Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.

Must be able to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner.

Must be able to understand and comprehend technical instructions and manuals.

Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.
