A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will play a key role in infrastructure projects such as roadwork, bridges, and site work. You will operate machinery like bulldozers, pavers, graders, and milling machines, handling tasks such as earthwork, demolition, paving, utility work, and site grading, always prioritizing safety.

Qualifications for a Heavy Equipment Operator

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in heavy construction, including operating tools and equipment used in paving, curb, utility installation, or related fields. Experience with bulldozers, pavers, graders, or milling machines is highly desired.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. CDL B license with DOT medical card, tanker, and airbrake endorsements are preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Hoisting Engineer's License (1C & 2A).
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug testing, and other regulatory requirements.

Work Schedule

Peak periods are during spring and fall, with most employees working over 40 hours during these times. Typical work hours are from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
