Summary

Reporting to the Project Superintendent, the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating equipment for road construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Equipment Operator include, but are not limited to:

• Effectively communicating with ground personnel, truck drivers, and supervisors.
• Operating equipment for road construction.
• Collaborating with the on-site mechanic or Shop Foreman to resolve equipment breakdown issues.
• Performing basic daily maintenance on equipment as needed.
• Operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently.

Safety & Compliance

• Adhering to company safety policies, EEO policies, and standard procedures.
• Wearing appropriate protective equipment: steel-toed boots, hard hats, eye protection, and ear protection.

Administration

• Filling out daily timecards and equipment inspections manually or electronically.

Requirements & Experience

• Willing and able to travel to job sites within Northwestern and Central Montana; possession of a camper or RV is recommended.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of pipe installation.
• Minimum of 2 years experience operating heavy equipment.
• Willing to work overtime as required.
• Flexibility to accommodate weather-dependent work schedules.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and dust.
• Compliance with company drug and alcohol testing policies.
• Membership or willingness to join the Operating Engineers Union.
