Position Summary
Supports daily quarry and rail operations by safely operating mobile equipment, managing material handling, and assisting with drilling and blasting activities to meet production, quality, and environmental standards. Requires strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills, ability to work independently or in a team, and willingness to work varying shifts and conditions while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities & Expectations
- Assist in coordinating and meeting kiln feed requirements for plant.
- Perform day‑to‑day operations of the quarry area to meet safety, tonnage, quality and environmental demands.
- Operate stone handling system.
- Assist in loading and stockpile management of dolostone.
- Assist with rail‑facility loading of lime shipments.
- Operate shuttle wagon.
- Communicate and coordinate BNSF rail activities.
- Drive to and from rail (CRM rail not located on plant site). CDL preferred.
- Operate mobile equipment for quarry and plant, including pit loader, haul trucks, water trucks, blade, utility loader, and other equipment as needed.
- Load large haul trucks and over‑the‑road trucks.
- Work independently or with others as required.
- Assist with drilling and blasting activities.
- Capable of adding ATF explosive license.
- Assist in inventory management of explosives.
Attributes
- Industrial background with demonstrated success in troubleshooting production problems.
- Ability to perform mechanical repairs: welding, conveyor belt splicing, oxygen‑acetylene cutting, heavy equipment operation, electrical knowledge, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of current safety, environmental and ATF regulations and practices.
- Ability to gain skills to operate all mobile equipment and to train and supervise others.
- Basic mathematical calculations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Knowledge in SAP and ability to generate required work notifications and purchase requisitions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel to help control and track quarry activities such as crushing, equipment downtime, fuel usage, and other items.
- Excellent human relations skills, ability to motivate and lead employees, and teamwork.
- Ability to multi‑task, strong organizational and communication skills, proven problem‑solving skills, and creative thinking.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and be open to call‑outs.
Physical Demands
- Work outside in severe weather conditions, exposure to high temperature, noise and dust.
- Access all areas within the site, including heights of up to 120ft, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and tunnels.
- Lift over 70lb.
- Willingness to operate and drive trucks to and from rail (CDL).
Required Experience
- At least 5years of experience in a production or distribution environment with supervisory experience preferred.
Required Education
- High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or equivalent practical experience; Associate’s degree in Industrial, Distribution, Engineering Systems, or related field preferred.
