An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Heavy Equipment Operator to join their team. This role involves operating various heavy machinery for the repair and maintenance of city roads and streets, including snow and ice removal during winter months. The ideal candidate will have experience with asphalt repairs and a solid understanding of safety protocols. This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of city roads and streets.• Participates in a variety of snow and ice removal operations, on call 24/7 during winter months, operating 12 hour shifts 7 days a week during snow and ice fighting operations.
• Operates a backhoe, front-end loader, motor grader, and other heavy equipment.
• Makes asphalt street repairs with paver, roller, durapatcher, hotbox and cold mix patch; seals cracks.
• Operates brine making equipment.
• Operates a street sweeper to clean city streets.
• Installs traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Operates tractor and bush hog to maintain rights-of-way.
• Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Sets up and assists in traffic control at work sites.
• Performs related duties.• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B driver’s license with air brakes and tanker endorsement issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, obtained within six months of employment.• Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and right-of-way maintenance.
• Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
• Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment and the computerized controls/devices in the equipment.
• Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
• Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
