Job summary

Qualifications

• 1+ year as Heavy Equipment Mechanic (required).
• Experience on dump trucks and mixers preferred.
• Must have safe driving record and be willing to travel 100%.
• DOT Health Card or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe practices in all daily activities.
• Diagnose/troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues accurately.
• Identify parts needed for repairs and read schematics/blueprints to assist repairs.
• Remove, replace, and repair major components on paving and heavy construction equipment.
• Perform routine services on heavy equipment.
• Communicate with equipment operators to assess machine performance.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Southwest Concrete Paving is an established concrete paving company specializing in military airfield construction across the western United States. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will manage all aspects of equipment maintenance and repair for concrete paving projects. This position will be a travelling position where the qualified applicant will be required to integrate and travel with a paving crew to assist in all assigned functions. The individual must be able to multi‑task and work in a fast‑paced work environment. Some night and weekend work will be required.

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Above all, ensure that safe practices are followed in all aspects of daily activities
• Diagnose/troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues accurately
• Identify parts needed for repairs
• Read schematics, diagrams, blue prints, etc. to assist with repairs and/or diagnostics
• Remove, replace, and repair major components on various types of paving and heavy construction equipment
• Perform routine services on heavy equipment
• Communicate with equipment operators to assess machine performance

• Maintain a clean and organized work environment

• Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

• Mechanical schooling is preferred but will do additional training
• Experience with working on dump trucks and mixers preferred
• Must have safe driving record
• Must be willing to travel up to 100%
• Must be available to work all shifts including days, nights, and/or weekends
• Must have own tools
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Have or be able to obtain DOT Health Card
• ASE Certification (Preferred)
• CDL Certified (Preferred)
• Must have a REAL ID or the ability to obtain a REAL ID before start date

EXPERIENCE

• Heavy Equipment Mechanic: Minimum 1 year (Required), 5 years (Preferred)
• Truck Mechanic: 1 year (Preferred)
• Basic welding skills, stick and wire
• Basic Computer Skills - working knowledge of third-party CAT, and similar programs
• Strong hydraulic and electric over hydraulic knowledge

In addition to a competitive salary of $35.00 base per hour, Davis Bacon Rates apply (up to $45/hr on participating projects).
