Plasser American Corp. is hiring a Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Outside Machinist for the 2nd shift in Chesapeake, VA. The role focuses on assembling machinery using blueprints and schematics, with emphasis on safety and precision.

Responsibilities

- Assemble parts using hand tools or specialized equipment to complete a mechanical component.
- Lift, position, and fasten components using tools while ensuring correct machine construction.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and assist with loading/unloading equipment as needed.
- Work independently or with a team to complete work orders on Plasser American machinery.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Outside Machinist General Scope: Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Outside Machinist has basic knowledge of proper use of hand and power tools to assemble parts according to instruction.
This is a Night Shift Role (Estimated 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.)
Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Outside Machinist Position Summary:
- Knowledge and experience with layout work from blueprints, schematics or drawings to place parts in specified relationship to each other.
- Experience and ability to use bolts, clips, screws or otherwise to fasten parts together using common hand tools or specialized tools and equipment to accomplish a finished mechanical part on a larger railroad maintenance machinery.
- Experience and knowledge of use of common tools, tapes, squares and levels both standard and metric.
- Assists in installation, lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as sub-frames, cylinders, pumps and motors with tools, while understanding the workings of these machines to ensure the machine is constructed correctly.
- Ability to work independently or with a team to complete the work order by assembling systems or mechanical parts on a Plasser American machine.
- maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
- ability to learn to disassemble machinery for rebuild or overhaul.
- assists with the loading and un-loading equipment with the use of a forklift, railroad machinery or other heavy equipment.
- some knowledge of overhead cranes.
- keeps work area clean, including their tools and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient work process.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Outside Machinist Knowledge: Incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Proper use of hand and power tools.
- Mechanical Assembly
Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Outside Machinist Skills: Incumbent must demonstrate or participate in internal/external training programs to obtain the following skills:

- 5 to 7 years of experience as a heavy Equipment Mechanic / Outside Machinist
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to read, and interpret, electrical schematic drawings, and engineering blueprints.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- May be required to operate material handling equipment.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Capable of working in a team environment.
