Job summary

Jackson County is seeking a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair gasoline and diesel highway equipment under the supervision of the Shop Foreman. You will diagnose problems, perform engine, transmission, hydraulic overhauls, tire and electrical/HVAC repairs, and conduct routine maintenance to ensure reliable operation.

This full-time role requires a high school diploma, 5+ years’ experience in heavy equipment repair, and preferably a Wisconsin CDL with air brake endorsements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; technical/mechanics training preferred.
• 5+ years experience with gasoline/diesel mechanics and heavy equipment repair.
• CDL with A/B and Air Brake endorsements preferred or within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, recondition, and replace parts of engines, transmissions, differentials, and hydraulic systems.
• Replace radiators, tanks, hoses, belts, brakes; adjust idle; replace alternators, spark plugs, coils, and injectors.
• Install, test, maintain and repair machinery; replace worn parts as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on highway equipment.
• Test equipment after repairs and provide written evaluations.
• Follow safety practices; respond to emergencies; assist with snowplowing and related tasks.
