The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) District 3 is currently recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor I in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill current and future vacancies in this classification.

Nature of Work: This position is responsible for the repair and preventative maintenance of all manner of powered and unpowered vehicles and highway maintenance equipment to include but not limited to; repair/rebuilding of automobiles, trucks light and heavy, tractors, mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, trailers, snow removal equipment, generators, front end loaders etc. Work will involve scheduling job assignments, planning and programming maintenance service schedules, supervising the tool room and shop-maintained parts inventory. This position is also responsible for maintaining records, files, writing reports, coordinating repair work with regular maintenance schedules in-house and with outside vendors. Additionally, this position has the responsibilities for facility maintenance and upkeep, the daily environmental compliance of the shop, yard and recycling management and recordkeeping. This position supervises the shops team of Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technicians I, II and III along with other assigned staff of SHA and or contractual employees as required.

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:Five (5) years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. Three (3) years of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Completion of an accredited training program for heavy equipment or diesel repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience. The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

3.U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

4.Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience Minimum Qualifications.)

5. Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.Candidate must possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the state of Maryland at time of hire.

Special Requirements:

• Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to call twenty-four hours a day as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility.

• Employees in this class may be required to have satisfied the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician III level of the employing administration's certification program.
• Employees may be required to obtain their certification in Air Conditioning Recycling and Recovery during their probationary period.
• Employees who are required to function in the capacity of Commercial Vehicle Inspector may be required to obtain and maintain their Commercial Vehicle Inspector's License.
• This position will be assigned a state vehicle.
• This position is considered essential and is expected to be available to work 24 hours/day 7days/week for inclement weather and/or other emergency events (including roadway-Interstate or other accidents and incidents).
