Our teams self-perform critical civil scopes including earthwork, grading, underground utilities, concrete, and related site development work.

As our Southwest operations continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanic to support our active project operations in Abilene, Texas.

This position is ideal for a hands-on mechanic with experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment, trucks, fleet vehicles, and other equipment used in demanding construction environments.

Position Overview

The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for helping keep Gregory Construction's heavy equipment and fleet safe, reliable, and operational in the field.

This individual will perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing, and repairs on a variety of construction equipment and vehicles supporting our Abilene project operations.

The ideal candidate will have direct mechanical experience working with equipment such as excavators, skid steers, dozers, loaders, graders, and similar heavy construction equipment, along with the ability to support trucks and other fleet vehicles as needed.

Experience with Komatsu equipment is strongly preferred, as well as a working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and general mechanical troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections of heavy equipment, trucks, and fleet vehicles to identify maintenance needs, wear, damage, or potential mechanical issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, lubrication, greasing, and scheduled equipment services.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues involving heavy construction equipment and fleet vehicles.
• Assist with or complete repairs to keep equipment safe, reliable, and operational.
• Identify major mechanical concerns and communicate repair or parts needs promptly to leadership.
• Support equipment such as excavators, skid steers, dozers, loaders, graders, and other heavy construction equipment.
• Assist with maintenance and repairs on company trucks, vehicles, and other construction-related fleet equipment as needed.
• Troubleshoot issues involving diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and other equipment systems within the mechanic's level of experience.
• Respond to equipment issues and breakdowns in the field to help minimize project downtime.
• Operate heavy construction equipment as needed for testing, diagnostics, movement, maintenance, and jobsite support.
• Communicate equipment condition, recurring issues, service needs, and potential concerns to field and equipment leadership.
• Maintain tools, service areas, parts, and workspaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Work closely with equipment operators, Foremen, Superintendents, and project leadership to prioritize maintenance needs.
• Follow all Gregory Construction safety requirements and jobsite procedures.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, or repairing heavy equipment and/or construction fleet vehicles.
• Must have relevant mechanical experience working with heavy construction equipment, such as excavators, skid steers, dozers, loaders, graders, or similar equipment.
• Heavy diesel mechanic experience is strongly preferred, including familiarity with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, preventative maintenance, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Experience working on a combination of heavy equipment, trucks, fleet vehicles, and other construction-related equipment is highly valued.
• Experience with Komatsu equipment is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, CASE, or similar manufacturers is also beneficial.
• Previous experience within heavy civil construction, earthwork, equipment rental/dealership, mining, aggregate, industrial construction, or a similar equipment-intensive industry is strongly preferred.
• Must be comfortable performing routine preventative maintenance as well as identifying, troubleshooting, and assisting with more involved mechanical repairs.
• Basic experience operating heavy construction equipment is required.

• Must currently reside in Abilene, TX or the immediate surrounding area.
• This is a full-time, field-based position supporting our Abilene project operations.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather and active construction site conditions.
• Ability to safely perform the physical duties associated with equipment maintenance and repair.
• Must successfully pass all required pre-employment screenings, including drug screening and background screening.
