Job summary

Lamar Community College invites qualified instructors to join our LCC Trades department on a part-time basis, teaching heavy equipment courses to prepare students for industry roles.

Instructor candidates should hold a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with 2,000 hours of occupational exposure and the ability to use modern teaching tools. Classes may occur day, evening, or weekend sessions at the Lamar campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Diesel Technology, Construction Management or equivalent.
• High School Diploma/GED with sufficient industry experience for Colorado CTE credentialing.
• Minimum 2,000 hours of relevant occupational experience or an approved combination of education, credentials, and experience.

• Complete required training and professional development for equipment simulators
• Deliver innovative curriculum using dynamic, responsive and technology-based methods that are matched to the
  needs of our diverse population of students and industry
• Have a strong focus on student retention and success
• Maintain a safe environment for students utilizing machinery.
• Assist in program development and other division tasks as assigned by the Dean of Academics.
• Participate in the development and revision of curriculum and program/course evaluation and assessment,
  including student learning outcomes.
• Perform related duties in the heavy equipment discipline as assigned; participate in professional development activities
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter
• Use effective teaching/learning strategies
• Work cooperatively with other department members and the Dean of Academic Services to develop and maintain
  quality instruction
• Assignment may include a combination of day, evening, and weekend courses
• Class preparation and instruction.
• Grading and record keeping.
• Student communication and support outside of the scheduled class time.
• Timely communication with peers and supervisors.
• Participation in department meetings, when possible.
• Active instructors are expected to participate in all mandatory compliance training courses.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Construction Engineering/Diesel Technology/Construction Management
  or
• High School Diploma/GED and Demonstrated occupational experience in heavy equipment operation, construction, excavation, transportation, diesel/heavy equipment, or a closely related field sufficient to meet applicable Colorado CTE credentialing requirements.
• Minimum of 2,000 hours of relevant occupational experience, or the applicable combination of education, industry credentials, and occupational experience required for the appropriate Colorado CTE credential.*
• Demonstrated knowledge of heavy equipment operation, job-site safety, equipment inspection, and industry practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and provide hands‑on instruction to students.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the applicable Colorado Career and Technical Education (CTE) credential/authorization as required for the instructional assignment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current industry‑recognized certifications or licenses applicable to heavy equipment operations.
• Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
• Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment, such as loaders, excavators, graders, dozers, backhoes, and similar equipment.
• Experience with equipment maintenance, inspection, and workplace/job‑site safety practices.
