Job summary

SA Recycling in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Heavy Equipment and Diesel Mechanic to repair, maintain, and inspect our fleet of heavy trucks and equipment. You will troubleshoot, perform maintenance, and execute basic bodywork as needed.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of diesel mechanic’s service experience in a shop setting or on a military installation preferred.
• Knowledge of Tier 4 engine and emissions diagnostics and repair; ASE Certification a plus.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical bulletins, schematics, manuals, drawings, and procedures.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (Class B CDL a plus).
• Willingness to work in varied weather conditions.
• Must be willing to complete and pass a drug screen, physical and background check.
• Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, brake, suspension, and fuel systems on trucks and equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance (oil/filters, lubrication, tires, brakes) on tractors, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Patch holes in trailers/containers as needed.
• Manage spare parts inventory.
• Coordinate with the General Manager for routine or emergency maintenance.
• Maintain accurate records of all work performed.
• Perform annual DOT inspections and sign-offs.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
• Adhere to SA Recycling safety and environmental procedures.
