Knife River Corporation in Casper, WY is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy equipment in our local shop. The role requires diagnosing component failures, performing hydraulic brake and engine work, reading manuals, and ensuring safe operation in extreme weather.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of mechanic experience in related environments such as road construction equipment.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply information from manuals, diagrams and schedules.
• Shop math skills and ability to communicate technical information clearly.
• Read safety rules and drawings; follow procedures for mechanical layout work.
• Capable of handling multiple projects with tight deadlines; organized and detail-oriented.
• Accurately complete work orders and maintenance documentation.
• Ensure OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, DNR and Knife River safety and environmental compliance.
• Provide own basic hand tools, pneumatics and some specialty tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on all equipment to keep it in safe working condition, including hydraulic, brake, engine, electrical and welding tasks.
• Troubleshoot maintenance problems by diagnosing components using manuals and schematics.
• Disassemble, fabricate parts when needed, and reassemble equipment and components.
• Communicate effectively with team members and external stakeholders; work independently or in a team.
• Work in the local shop as part of Knife River Casper division.

Knife River is looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to work for our Casper, WY division. This position will require you to be able to work both independently and as a team player. Working in extreme weather conditions should be expected.

Job Summary

• Responsible for performing maintenance and repairs of a significant nature on all types of equipment and/or assisting with repairs/improvements/maintenance of equipment to assure it is in safe working condition. These repairs include but are not limited to: hydraulic repair, brake work, engines, air compressors, transmissions, electrical repairs and welding. Safely operate equipment, standard & specialty tools welders, hoists and other lifting devices, etc. on a daily basis
• Troubleshooting equipment maintenance problems to properly diagnose components to determine method and extent of repair necessary. Read, interpret, analyze and apply information in technical manuals and schematics.
• Anticipate needed parts & supplies, disassemble equipment & parts, fabricate parts when needed and reassemble equipment & parts
• Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written). Frequent contact and communication with others within and outside the company. Self-motivated, team-player with excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work independently or in a team setting; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.

Work will be performed in the local shop.

Minimum Qualifications

• Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment in mechanic field or maintaining road construction equipment with demonstrated mechanical knowledge to diagnose component, troubleshoot, repair, communicate and document.
• Reasoning ability equivalent to a level of applying principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagrammatic or schedule form
• Mathematical ability equivalent to a level of shop math - (The position may require different actual mathematical applications)
• Language ability equivalent to a level which is typically evidenced by an ability to read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work. Speaks clearly & distinctly.
• Proven experience handling multiple projects and priorities while maintaining tight deadlines; highly organized with attention to detail.
• Accurately complete work orders or other maintenance repair documentation
• Ensure OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, DNR, and Knife River safety and environmental regulation compliance
• Responsible to provide own basic hand tools, pneumatics and some specialty tools
• Frequently working in an environment with: Exposure to varying elements and all weather conditions, Atmospheric Conditions, Proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes, odors, mists, adhesives, loud noise and vibration. May be working within a structural building or in the outdoors.
• While performing routine maintenance or other mechanical activities may be required to Frequently: stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, reach, handle, finger, near acuity and depth perception; Occasionally hearing, climb, twist and color vision. Lift 20-50# occasionally, 10-25# frequently and up to 10# constantly.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
