Job summary

Guardian Fleet Services in Louisville, KY is seeking a Heavy‑Duty Wrecker Driver to safely operate large tow trucks, recover and transport commercial vehicles, and perform demanding on‑scene operations with professionalism.

You will conduct pre/post‑trip inspections, secure loads per DOT standards, coordinate with dispatch and customers, and maintain clean, organized equipment, including nights and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Clean driving record meeting DOT/insurance standards.
• Experience operating heavy‑duty wreckers/rotators preferred.
• Knowledge of rigging, recovery techniques, and load securement.
• Ability to pass drug screening and background checks.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy‑duty wreckers, rotators, and recovery equipment to tow or recover vehicles/heavy equipment.
• Perform complex recoveries including rollovers, winch‑outs, load shifts, and accident scene operations.
• Inspect, maintain, and secure rigging, chains, straps, winches, and towing equipment.
• Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the wrecker and report issues.
• Communicate with dispatch, law enforcement, customers, and on‑scene responders.
• Secure loads safely and in compliance with DOT and company standards.
• Complete required paperwork, digital logs, and service reports.
• Respond to calls during nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized truck and uphold safety standards.

Position Summary

The Heavy‑Duty Wrecker Driver is responsible for safely operating heavy‑duty tow trucks to recover, tow, and transport commercial vehicles, equipment, and other large loads. This role requires advanced driving skill, strong mechanical awareness, and the ability to perform physically demanding recovery tasks in all weather conditions. The driver represents the company on‑scene and must maintain professionalism, safety, and efficiency at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy‑duty wreckers, rotators, and recovery equipment to tow or recover various vehicles/heavy equip.
• Perform complex recoveries including rollovers, winch‑outs, load shifts, and accident scene operations.
• Inspect, maintain, and secure all rigging, chains, straps, winches, and towing equipment.
• Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the wrecker and report mechanical issues.
• Communicate with dispatch, law enforcement, customers, and other responders on‑scene.

Required Qualifications

Physical Requirements

• Lift, pull, and carry 75–100 lbs. regularly (chains, rigging, toolboxes, hydraulic attachments).
• Operate winches, levers, and manual controls requiring upper‑body strength .
• Perform repeated bending, kneeling, climbing, and crouching during recovery operations.
• Stand and work on uneven ground for extended periods.
