Manthei Construction is a premier heavy construction and site development company based in Charlevoix, MI. With over 50 years of experience, we have played a key role in developing communities and infrastructure throughout Northern Michigan.

We are currently seeking a Heavy Construction Pipe Layer to join our team. The primary responsibilities include excavation and pipe installation for underground utility systems such as sanitary and storm sewers and watermain construction.

This is a full-time, seasonal position, typically working Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work and opportunities for overtime. Job sites are mainly located in Northern Michigan, and overnight travel is generally not required.

• Collaborate with team members to complete projects prioritizing safety, quality, then productivity
• Operate small power tools and hand tools like saws, compactors, and impact wrenches
• Set up pipe lasers and understand slope and grade requirements
• Work with equipment operators to create safe excavation trenches and prevent utility damage
• Follow OSHA trench safety regulations
• Shovel, grade, set, and bed various pipe types, including concrete, PVC, HDPE, and ductile iron
• Understand basic lifting and rigging techniques

Qualifications and Requirements

• Experience with pipe installation in heavy construction is preferred
• Respectful and positive attitude
• Ability to work in various weather conditions
• Physical ability to perform demanding tasks such as shoveling, lifting, and raking
• Basic math skills relevant to construction tasks
• Team player willing to learn
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
• Strong work ethic, dependability, and consistency
