Tucker Paving, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Civil Site Superintendent to supervise field operations for site development projects in Winter Haven, Florida.

Competenze

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Heavy Civil Site Superintendent

Department: Dirt/Base/Pipe

Reports To: General Superintendent

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Tucker Paving, Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Site Superintendent to supervise and coordinate field operations for heavy civil construction and site development projects. This position is responsible for leading crews and subcontractors, coordinating equipment and materials, maintaining production schedules, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to Tucker Paving's quality standards.

The Heavy Civil Site Superintendent must demonstrate strong leadership and field management skills, including the ability to delegate work, anticipate project needs, coordinate crews and equipment, and ensure project deadlines and safety requirements are met. Experience with site development, earthwork, grading, underground utilities, paving, and related heavy civil construction activities is highly preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and coordinate work activities performed by Tucker Paving employees and subcontractors.
  • Serve as a backup to the General Superintendent as the OSHA Competent Person and be able to understand and communicate applicable safety regulations for the work being performed.
  • Maintain proficiency with GPS machine-controlled systems on heavy equipment, where applicable.
  • Know and comply with all Tucker Paving policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA regulations, including but not limited to trench safety, confined space requirements, and silica dust safety.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions that may exist or occur on the jobsite, including assisting with jobsite inspections and following through with corrective actions for identified hazards.
  • Report safety violations involving crew members or subcontractors to the General Superintendent and/or Safety Department.
  • Always model safe work practices, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices.
  • Anticipate equipment, material, trucking, and personnel needs for upcoming work well in advance. Proactively plan and schedule work assignments for project-related activities.
  • Coordinate daily field operations associated with site development, earthwork, grading, underground utilities, paving, and related heavy civil construction activities, as applicable to the project.
  • Participate in scheduled supervisory meetings and attend other company meetings, events, and functions as required.
  • Maintain a professional presence that positively represents Tucker Paving, Inc. with employees, subcontractors, customers, and project stakeholders.
  • Calculate the number of trucks required to haul materials to and from projects based on vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from the worksite, project production requirements, and driver productivity.
  • Oversee labor management, productivity, and quality control throughout assigned projects.
  • Maintain accurate time, material, production, and other records necessary to support daily job costing.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervise assigned projects and the crews involved in those projects.
  • Coordinate employees, subcontractors, equipment, and daily field activities to maintain project schedules and production goals.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
  • Ensure company policies, procedures, and safety requirements are followed in the field.
  • Supervise and coordinate crew activities by reviewing production schedules, project requirements, and anticipated workloads.
  • Plan and manage work to meet or exceed project production, schedule, quality, and budget expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) credential.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of heavy civil construction experience, including experience supervising field crews and construction operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Previous experience in a construction supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience with sitework, earthwork, grading, underground utilities, paving, or related heavy civil construction activities preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, instructions, correspondence, and project-related documentation.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate equipment, as required.
  • Ability to maintain accurate time, material, and production records.
  • Demonstrate a high level of safety awareness and a clear understanding of heavy equipment and jobsite safety.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred but not required.
  • Ability to effectively set up and use site levels, grade lasers, pipe lasers, and straight-line levels.
  • Experience with GPS and machine-control technology preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively with employees, subcontractors, management, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively lead crews, communicate project expectations, and address field issues as they arise.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages, quantities, and other measurements necessary for field operations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, make sound field decisions, solve problems, and adjust operations based on changing project conditions.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Ability to effectively use an iPad and smartphone for project-related activities.
  • Ability to use Windows operating systems and associated software.
  • Prior experience with Procore preferred but not required.
  • Ability to learn and utilize company-required construction technology and field management systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and lead field personnel.
  • Ability to work weekends, nights, and public holidays when required by project schedules.
  • Ability to travel to project locations as required.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch as required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to maintain constant awareness of multiple concurrent jobsite activities, including employees, subcontractors, stationary equipment, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces and natural terrain in varying weather conditions.
