Job summary

Ames Construction, Inc. is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our heavy civil team in the Charlotte, Kings Mountain, Greensboro or Asheville regions.

This role supports project managers, reviews plans, and helps manage large-scale infrastructure projects such as highways and bridges. You will coordinate with subcontractors, track progress, assist with budgeting and scheduling, and help ensure quality and safety on busy job sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Internship or co-op experience in construction preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of construction principles and project management fundamentals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6) is a plus.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with daily project operations.
• Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Track project progress, prepare reports, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
• Support quality control and safety compliance on job sites.
• Assist in cost tracking, budgeting, and schedule updates.
• Participate in problem-solving and provide technical support during construction activities.
