Job summary

Pittman Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator for a full-time position based in Conyers, GA. As part of the Estimating team, you will develop estimating procedures, review project plans, and prepare detailed estimates while ensuring timely completion of associated tasks.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering principles, estimating techniques, and project management methods. You will work primarily in an office environment but may require site visits for verification and additional assessments. Benefits include 401(k), health and vision insurance, and profit sharing.

Job description

Pittman Construction Company is currently seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to join our team. This will be a full‑time, salaried position. This role reports directly to the VP of Estimating and is based in‑office in our Conyers, GA headquarters. This is not a remote position.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement estimating procedures and best practices to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Estimating and Bidding

• Review plans and specifications to understand the scope of the work.
• Analyze the project and prepare takeoffs, detailed estimate setups, subcontractor and vendor RFQs, and follow up on RFQs to ensure quotes are received.
• Visit project sites to determine potential problems, verify quantities, and identify options for construction methodology.
• Attend pre‑bid meetings.
• Use computer‑based software to complete takeoffs, verify field measurements, and obtain information from the contract documents to accurately calculate information for estimates.
• Assist in preparing subcontracts and purchase orders.
• Prepare project reports, business correspondence, and documents.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Complete assigned tasks on time, in a professional and organized manner.
• Maintain a positive company image with clients, potential clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Build and maintain good working relationships with internal staff, subcontractors, vendors, client representatives, and others while upholding ethical standards.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing.
• Understanding of civil engineering and construction principles.
• Knowledge of project management principles, practices, and methods.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with estimating software such as HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, and Google Earth.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience in the State of Georgia (GDOT) is preferred.

Qualifications

• Preferred formal education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum four years of heavy civil estimating experience, with proven experience leading small to large‑scale DOT project bids ranging from $1 million or more. GDOT experience is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and DOT project requirements.
• Strong command of HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, and Google Earth.
• Detail‑oriented, highly organized, and accountable.

Work Environment

• Office environment majority of the time.
• Travel to project sites as needed.
• Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
• Work near moving construction equipment.
• Work in field equipment with exposure to dust, fumes, inclement weather, extreme heat and cold.
• Noise level in the field environment can be loud.
• Pittman Construction is a drug‑free workforce; employees are required to submit to testing.

This is a full‑time position. Salary will be commensurate with experience and will be discussed further during the first interview, should you be selected to move forward.
