Job summary

RUTS Construction in Austin, TX is seeking a Heavy Civil Construction Laborer to support the Foreman with on-site tasks including digging, material handling, and pipe work. The role requires physical stamina and adherence to safety policies in an outdoor environment.

Responsibilities include heavy lifting, tool and equipment cleaning, concrete and pipe installation, and assisting in excavation projects. Valid driver's license and travel ability are preferred, with a deadline of 2 October 2026

Qualifications

• Highschool diploma or equivalent preferred
• One (1) year of heavy civil construction experience preferred
• Must be able to travel if needed
• A valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Digging, spreading, and leveling dirt, sand and gravel with a pick, shovel, or rake.
• Lift, carry and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
• Clean tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.
• Mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
• Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
• Perform a variety of routine non-machine tasks such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trench, and assembling sections of pipe.
• Perform a variety of machine tasks such as tapping soil, jack hammering, and assisting in the excavation of pipes.
• Must be able to climb on, off, and under various pieces of equipment, and physically access all parts of equipment to perform job requirements.
• Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety Manager.
• Other duties as assigned.

As a Heavy Civil Construction Laborer, you will work under the direction of the Foreman and perform a variety of construction-related tasks. This includes heavy lifting, digging, equipment cleaning, site preparation, pipe system assembly, and operating construction tools and equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
• Must be able to climb on, off, and under various pieces of equipment, and physically access all parts of equipment to perform job requirements.
• Manual dexterity is sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers. Ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
