Job summary

The YMCA in Boothbay Harbor is seeking a results-driven Operations Leader to oversee health and wellness programming for the community.

You will partner with the Director of Operations to recruit, train, and manage staff, ensure safety standards, and deliver high-quality group exercise classes and wellness initiatives at our community campus.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification within 60 days.
  • Personal Training or Exercise certification within 120 days.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.

Description

Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit to strengthen the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the Director of Operations to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development. Serves as a role model for other staff and participants.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Operations to create and lead staff in executing programs, wellness challenges, and/or curriculum for the advancement of the YMCA while ensuring safety, licensing standards, and the YMCAs reputation and providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Partners with the Director of Operations to lead staff in providing quality health and wellness programming while adhering to all standards, including group exercise, personal training, small group training, and fitness classes. Oversees the department's daily operations while adhering to budget objectives.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates healthy living programs, orientations, and group exercise classes, ensuring proper exercise and behavior techniques, safety, modifications, and progressions as well as a variety of offerings that meet members’ needs.
  • Leads by example, creating an energetic and welcoming YMCA experience for members and visitors.
  • Promotes Y programs and services to existing and potential members and recruits new participants.
  • Assists the Director of Operations with staff communication and directly oversees staff recruitment, training & development, and management. Hires, trains, manages and evaluates group exercise instructors to maintain high standards and consistency in classes. Organizes and leads staff meetings and ensures attendance. Oversees payroll.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with staff, participants, and community partners and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Works closely with staff to ensure group exercise facilities and equipment are maintained, updated, organized and clean and safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Tracks attendance manages class-related budgets, orders equipment, and coordinates promotions and communications for group fitness programs.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities.

  • Work is performed at a community campus that serves all people.

  • The campus facility is open early mornings, evenings, and weekends and the job may require attendance outside of regular business hours (9am - 5pm).
  • The noise level can be all volumes.
Essential Experience and Skill Requirements:
  • 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Team player, with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to work with co-workers and the public in a positive and friendly manner and resolve conflicts as needed.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • General computer skills with the ability to effectively learn and use new software.
  • Personal Training and/or Exercise certification required within 120 days.
Essential Education Requirements:
  • High School degree or GED, or the equivalent experience.
