Job Summary:

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking applications for a 1.0 FTE Healthcare Tech I-III (open rank) to take photos at several clinic locations in Denver and Aurora. This position will work on patient recruitment and consents for research imaging. Operates specialized ophthalmic equipment. This role will be responsible for providing the research consent form, educating regarding the study, providing answers to patient’s questions, and capturing the retina’s picture. The Ophthalmology Department is providing imaging services OCT and Non-mydriatic fundus photography services. Healthcare Techs are responsible for providing outstanding customer service to the assigned physicians, referring providers and patient. The individual in this position will perform a broad spectrum of duties related to the effective and efficient clinical assistance of patients for outpatient visits and procedures. This includes maintaining precise interactions with nurses, physicians, and any other departments or functions involved in the delivery of patient care services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under direct supervision of an eye care provider, assists with performing patient care and patient flow.
  • Under direct supervision of an eye care provider: Performs diagnostic imaging and testing including OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing. Administers intravenous agents in preparation for fluorescein angiography.
  • Provides documentation, educates patients, creates appointments and enters charges.
  • Performs clinical and administrative duties in support of assigned area.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Healthcare Technician I

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
    • Required Licensure/Certification: Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) within 30 days of hire or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification. Completion of the Ophthalmic Assistant Home Study Course within 1 year of hire (tracked by unit) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider.
Healthcare Technician II

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of Health Care experience
    • Required Licensure/Certification: Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) within 30 days of hire or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification. Completion of the Ophthalmic Assistant Home Study Course within 1 year of hire (tracked by unit) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider.
Healthcare Technician III

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of Health Care experience
    • Required Licensure/Certification: Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) within 30 days of hire or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification. Completion of the Ophthalmic Assistant Home Study Course within 1 year of hire (tracked by unit) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider.
  • Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications (all ranks):

  • 3 or more months of healthcare experience
  • Medical office experience in area of specialty
  • Current CMA certification
  • EPIC EMR experience
  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude with clients, employees, and management.

  • Ability to multitask efficiently and effectively while maintaining quality control standards.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

  • Healthcare Technician I - $41,726 - $48,404
  • Healthcare Technician II - $43,806 - $50,822
  • Healthcare Technician III - $45,997 - $53,361

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
