Job summary

Buro Happold is seeking a seasoned Healthcare Sector Leader for the Northeast region to drive growth, secure strategic partnerships, and oversee project delivery in this key market.

You will collaborate with regional leaders and teams to implement a comprehensive business development and delivery strategy, expanding client relationships and expanding our healthcare services across the Northeast.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or related field.
  • 15+ years of proven experience in business development and project delivery within the AEC industry.
  • Track record of successfully supporting complex deals and achieving revenue targets.
  • A seller/doer with strong business development capabilities and contribution to must‑win proposal strategy.
  • Strong understanding of engineering industry dynamics, market trends, and competitive landscapes. Ability to analyze data, identify opportunities, and make strategic business decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively present proposals, help negotiate deals, and build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain long‑term relationships with healthcare sector clients and partners.
  • Strong strategic thinking: identify growth opportunities and develop innovative business development strategies.
  • Leadership and collaboration: strong leadership skills with ability to inspire and guide cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop important Key Client and Collaborator relationships with guidance from Partners and other work winners.
  • Sell Client Propositions: Use personal expertise to identify the breadth of services offered by Buro Happold that meets the client's needs.
  • Promote Client Focus: Collaborate internally and work as the KRM champion across our integrated discipline teams to build strong external Client and Collaborator relationships.
  • Key Relationship Management (KRM) Data: In collaboration with our broader BD team, track and analyze business development activities, revenue generation, and client conversion rates. Provide regular reports, forecasts, and insights to senior management to inform strategic decision‑making.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Review and understand market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, market demands, and competitive landscapes. Use this information to develop actionable strategies for business development and growth.
  • Industry Networking: Attend industry events, conferences, and trade shows to expand professional networks, stay updated with industry trends, and identify potential business opportunities.
  • Revenue Forecasting and Reporting: In collaboration with our business finance team, track and analyze business development activities, revenue generation, and client conversion rates.
  • Collaboration and Team Leadership: Work closely with internal teams, including engineering, marketing, and operations, to align business development initiatives and project delivery approach with overall company strategies. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Northeast Region based Healthcare Sector Leader to join us at Buro Happold. You will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and expansion of our business, identifying and securing new strategic partnerships, fostering Client and Collaborator relationships, and overseeing delivery of projects within this sector.

We have grown our business significantly across the US region, creating a design and advisory team that generates $100m per annum in fees. Our strategy is to continue to grow and double our size in the next 5 years to +$200M.

This role is responsible for ensuring that Buro Happold and our people are positioned in the minds of Clients and Collaborators in the best possible light, across our disciplines, service offers, markets, and sectors.

Your next role

Our Healthcare Sector is a key sector in our new 5‑year strategy, with the goal of creating $40m revenue per year. The role involves generating opportunities and pursuits through key client relationship management and development. You and your teams will focus on Regional Clients and Collaborators selling integrated services across our Engineering Design and Advisory.

As one of our Healthcare Sector Leaders, you will work alongside our Northeast Region Market Lead partners, office directors, marketing and other stakeholders, to develop and implement a comprehensive business development and delivery strategy to ultimately grow our Healthcare Sector as it aligns with Buro Happold’s goals and objectives. You’ll identify potential clients, and partnership opportunities to build our brand and drive revenue growth. As part of this role, you will integrate with our global business network of skills and decades of experience to build positive Client and Collaborator relationships.

Your key duties
