Job summary

Buro Happold, USA, seeks an Associate Electrical Engineer to lead electrical delivery on complex multidisciplinary building projects from our Atlanta base or other preferred locations. You will guide design teams, manage scope and schedules, and ensure compliance with US codes and standards within a growing MEP practice in the Southeast.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Approximately 8 years or more of progressively responsible experience designing electrical systems for buildings.
  • Active Professional Engineer license in at least one US jurisdiction, with ability to secure additional state licensure where required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical delivery on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable US electrical, building, energy and life-safety codes and standards.
  • Experience managing project scope, resources, schedules, fees and technical quality.
  • Experience developing and maintaining client and architect relationships.
  • Ability to lead, delegate, review and develop the work of engineers and designers.
  • Proficiency with Revit/BIM workflows and familiarity with relevant electrical-analysis tools.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering delivery on significant and complex multidisciplinary building projects.
  • Establish the electrical design approach, scope, deliverables, program, resourcing and quality plan.
  • Direct the design of systems such as utility services, normal and emergency power distribution, lighting and controls, grounding, fire‑alarm interfaces and other building electrical systems.
  • Review and approve calculations, drawings, models, specifications, reports and technical recommendations.
  • Ensure that electrical designs comply with applicable codes, standards and Buro Happold quality procedures.
  • Coordinate closely with clients, architects, contractors, utilities and internal engineering disciplines.
  • Act as a trusted technical adviser, communicating complex issues and recommendations clearly.
  • Manage electrical project resources and monitor fees, hours, forecasts, schedules, change and delivery risk.
  • Support project managers in delivering multidisciplinary projects, and act as project manager where appropriate.
  • Lead electrical input during construction through RFIs, submittals, site observations, commissioning coordination and resolution of field issues.
  • Plan and undertake technical reviews, providing direction to project teams.
  • Lead, mentor and support electrical engineers and designers, including work allocation, coaching, feedback and professional development planning.
  • Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, technical training and succession development for the local team.
  • Support proposals, interviews, fee development and client development activities.
  • Identify opportunities for repeat work and additional services while protecting client interests.
  • Contribute to local market visibility and the continued development of Buro Happold’s Southeast MEP practice.
  • Collaborate with specialists across Buro Happold to advance high‑performance, electrified and lower‑carbon design.

Lead the next generation of building-services design

Buro Happold is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to provide technical, project and client leadership within our growing US MEP practice. The preferred candidate location is Atlanta, GA; however, we are open to considering those that reside in Raleigh/Durham, NC or Miami, FL.

You will lead electrical delivery on complex multidisciplinary projects, guide teams through technical and project challenges, and build trusted relationships with clients, architects and collaborators. You will also help develop our people, strengthen our technical standards and support the continued growth of our MEP presence in the South.

This role is suited to an experienced engineer ready to combine hands‑on technical leadership with responsibility for project outcomes, clients, commercial performance and team development.

Your next role

As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will:

  • Lead electrical engineering delivery on significant and complex multidisciplinary building projects.

  • Lead electrical input during construction through RFIs, submittals, site observations, commissioning coordination and resolution of field issues.

Your skills and experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent recognized qualification.

  • Evidence of contributing to repeat work, market development or professional‑industry activity.
  • Experience with complex power distribution, resilient systems, electrification, renewable integration or high‑performance buildings.
  • LEED AP, WELL AP or another relevant sustainability credential.
