Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated Healthcare Science Associate to join the Genomics central laboratory at St James’s University Hospital. This permanent, full-time role is Band 5, 37.5 hours per week, with shifts including weekends.

You will perform a broad range of diagnostic techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, FISH, and NGS, ensuring high accuracy and timely results in a fast-paced genetics laboratory.

Qualifications

We are currently recruiting for dedicated individuals to join our growing team in the genomics central laboratory at St James’s University Hospital, as a Healthcare Science Associate.

Working closely with colleagues at Leeds and across the wider North East and Yorkshire (NEY) Region, Applicants Should Have Experience Of

• A broad range of diagnostic techniques, including cell culture, FISH, DNA extraction, Next generation sequencing (NGS) and PCR
• Have attained competencies in a range of basic and complex techniques used in a genetics laboratory.
• Be able to maintain a high level of accuracy and reliability in defined routine, preparative and associated procedures.
• Be able to show some level of knowledge of analytical and interpretation techniques.
• Ideally applicants will have previous experience in a diagnostic laboratory and have completed or be working towards registration with the AHCS or HCPC.

The successful candidate will need to work in a fast‑paced environment, completing work at short notice and delivering the tight deadlines. This role requires excellent communication skills, good manual dexterity and a high level of attention to detail. By working to strict deadlines within established systems and procedures, the successful applicant will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, technical and analytical skill and flexibility. The post holder should have the ability to use their initiative and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

The post holder will be required to work 37.5 hours per week full-time and contribute to out‑of‑hour’s rotas including weekends and bank holidays as required.
