Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, based in Seattle, WA, is seeking a full-time day-shift Cytogenomics Genomics Lab Specialist who will perform cancer genomic laboratory procedures and report results under supervision. The role requires a Bachelor's in a relevant field, certification (CG(ASCP)CM or MB(ASCP)CM), and practical Cytogenetics/genomics experience.

A strong attention to detail, communication, and computer skills are essential, with color vision testing and a safety-focused mindset

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or a Bachelor's degree and equivalent education and training as defined in 42CFR493.1489(b)(3)(ii). Must meet the CLIA education requirements for high complexity testing
  • Typically, at least one year experience in a Cytogenetics/genomics lab OR completion of a formal certified training program in Cytogenetics/genomics
  • Certification as CG(ASCP)CM or MB(ASCP)CM or international equivalent with on-going documentation of CE comparable to ASCP programs
  • Basic knowledge of CAP guidelines
  • Basic knowledge of Cytogenetics or Cancer Genomics and related diagnostic testing

  • Assist members of lab management to improve operations, investigate and implement new technologies, streamline workflow strategies, organize, and evaluate QC/QM record
  • Assist with orientation and training of lab staff
  • Contribute to the continuing education of staff either through directly presenting material or investigating other resources

Under General supervision, perform cancer genomic laboratory procedures leading to the formation of accurate clinical reports using the International System for Cytogenomic Nomenclature

Works under the direction of the Technical Supervisor (or Section Director as defined in CAP.GEN.53400/CYG.50000) and technical guidance of senior techs with supervision from the lab operational leadership team. Uses discretion and judgment in carrying out procedures.

This position will be full-time day shift, routine Saturday shift required.

Responsibilities

The hourly pay range for this position is from $40.62 to $60.92 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
