Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Senior Medical Planner to provide planning leadership for healthcare projects across our practice. You will guide programming, master planning, and functional planning, translating clinical operations and patient needs into efficient, welcoming, and buildable healthcare environments.

You will work closely with project architects, interior designers, engineers, and healthcare leaders, serving as a subject matter expert and mentor within the firm.

Qualifications

• Accredited professional degree in Architecture or a related field.
• 10+ years of architectural experience, including 7+ years focused on healthcare planning.
• Experience leading programming, master planning, and functional planning for healthcare facilities.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare codes, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (FGI, NFPA 101, state licensing, CMS).
• Ability to translate clinical operations and patient needs into space programs and layouts.
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; strong knowledge of Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and client relationship skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities in healthcare planning teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead programming, master planning, and functional planning for healthcare projects from early concept through design.
• Facilitate user group meetings, visioning sessions, and workshops with clinicians, administrators, and facility leaders.
• Translate clinical operations, patient volumes, and departmental needs into space programs, adjacency diagrams, and plans.
• Develop and review floor plans, room layouts, and equipment plans for clinical spaces.
• Provide healthcare planning expertise and guidance to project teams and the broader practice.
• Ensure designs meet healthcare codes, guidelines, and licensing requirements.
• Coordinate with engineers, equipment planners, and consultants to integrate requirements.
• Collaborate with design leads to align planning with the overall design vision.
• Maintain program documentation and track scope and budget throughout the project.
• Mentor designers and planners in healthcare planning practices.
• Support business development, including proposals and client interviews.
• Serve as a point of contact for client questions during project delivery.
