MU Health Care is seeking a skilled Plumbing/Steam Systems Technician to install, repair and maintain essential distribution lines within our critical facility environment. The role emphasizes safety, attention to detail, and independent problem solving in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

The ideal candidate will read blueprints, use plumbing tools proficiently, and handle demanding physical tasks while supporting patient care operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Five years of work experience and apprenticeship or vocational training in plumbing trade.
• Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings and plumbing diagrams.
• Skill in maintenance and use of plumbing tools, equipment and materials.
• Must be able to lift 50-80 lbs daily.
• Capable of climbing ladders and working from heights.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain water, air, vacuum, gas, steam and related distribution lines and systems.
• Cut, thread, and join pipe; perform soldering and welding; insulate and paint lines as required.
• Inspect, test, and maintain water softening equipment when needed.
• Operate and safely store all tools and equipment; assist with material handling.
• Prepare cost estimates, material orders, records, and reports as required.
• Follow safety requirements and work across disciplines as needed.
• May operate backhoe or other construction equipment and perform related duties.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Install, repair, and maintain water, air, vacuum, gas, hot water, distilled water, acid, and chemical distribution lines and systems, storm and sanitary waste lines and systems, steam and condensate return distribution lines and systems, ranging from standard systems to specialized installations.

Cut, thread, and join pipe; operate all necessary tools for the trade. May perform soldering, lead wiping, acetylene, and electric cutting and welding. Insulate and paint lines and equipment as required.

Drill holes in walls, floors, and ceilings. Help handle material and equipment related to job.

May be required to inspect, test, service, and maintain water softening equipment.

Clean, maintain, safely operate and properly store all tools and equipment.

May perform or assist in performance of any of the following: preparation of cost estimates, preparation of material orders, maintenance of records, and preparation of reports.

Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation.

Due to necessary fluctuations of workloads in the skill area, an incumbent in this class may be required, on an occasional basis and according to need, to perform duties outside his/her trade area.

Normal safety requirements, scheduling and the most efficient use of staff and equipment are taken into consideration in such assignments.

May be required to operate a backhoe and other construction equipment. Perform related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Five years actual work experience and training, including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training, in the trade. Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, and plumbing diagrams. Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of applicable trade. A person working in this classification will need on a daily basis, to be able to:

• - Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trades tools and equipment.
• - Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy (50-80 lbs) objects.
• - Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, lift, and otherwise move equipment, controls, parts, etc.
• - Visually assess maintenance, construction and repair needs.
• - Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
• A valid driver's license may be required.
