Job summary

Duke University Health System is actively seeking a Staff Interior Designer to plan, design, and implement interior environments across hospitals, clinics, research, educational, and administrative facilities. This on-site role blends creativity with healthcare design standards to support patient healing, staff efficiency, and exceptional care delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with NCIDQ eligibility.
  • Minimum three years of interior design experience; one year in a commercial setting.
  • Experience including purchasing of commercial furnishings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and design interior environments for healthcare, research, educational, and administrative facilities.
  • Meet with customers and stakeholders to assess needs and develop practical, functional design solutions.
  • Coordinate design activities with PMs, architects, contractors, consultants, vendors, maintenance staff, and end users.
  • Develop concepts, finish selections, furniture specs, palettes, and construction docs.
  • Apply evidence-based design to support patient experience, staff well-being, safety, infection prevention, accessibility, and efficiency.
  • Select furniture, finishes, and materials balancing aesthetics with durability and healthcare requirements.
  • Maintain interior finish standards and prepare project presentations for leadership.
  • Develop project budgeting, furniture procurement, and cost estimating; coordinate installations and verify quality.
