Job summary

20 Elliot Hospital of the City of Manchester seeks a Facilities Maintenance professional to operate and maintain all mechanical equipment and spaces across the facility. The role requires performing routine checks, starting and monitoring boilers, chillers, pumps, and generators to ensure continuous plant operations.

You will respond to alarms, document logs, and supervise after-hours personnel while following hospital procedures and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in plant operations or building maintenance; healthcare experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license required and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Makes periodic checks of unmanned machinery spaces to verify operation of designated equipment.
• Maintains and restores system/equipment to satisfactory operating condition as needed.
• Starts and operates boilers, chillers, blowers, pumps, compressors, generators, cooling towers and related machinery.
• Monitors system operations, follows procedures, and switches fuels as required.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance and inspections.
• Responds to alarms (refrigeration, medical gas, heating/cooling, boilers, generators) and takes corrective actions.
• Initiates First Response actions per department policies and disaster plans.
• Maintains boiler room and machine room logs (steam, fuel, water, tests, HVAC parameters).
• Oversees after-hours maintenance personnel, contractors, or vendors.
