Job summary

Duke University Hospital and Medical Center seeks a dedicated facilities maintenance technician to perform routine preventive maintenance and timely repairs across designated buildings and equipment.

On-site work, 3–4 years of building maintenance experience (healthcare setting preferred) and a high school diploma or GED are required. Valid NC driver’s license and customer communication skills are essential components of this role.

Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Three to four years minimum experience in building maintenance or a related trade.
• Strong communication with customers and teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment.
• Make minor repairs and preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and communication systems.
• Perform general building repairs (carpentry, doors/windows, ceilings/floors, furniture) including minor paint/patch work.
• Complete and assist with minor service requests; refer complex items to shop personnel.
• Inspect fire and smoke partitions; patch penetrations; report issues.
• Advise management on facility conditions and potential improvements for budgeting.
• Maintain maintenance records to comply with regulations.
