Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Lexington, KY seeks an Interior Designer to plan and implement a complete interior design program for the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center.

The role covers over 1.465 million gross square feet across two divisions and multiple clinics. The incumbent reports to the Office of the Chief - Engineering Service and will coordinate cross-discipline teams, develop cost estimates, and manage renovations with adherence to health, safety, and privacy

Qualifications

• Specialized experience: planning, programming, design analysis and space planning for interior spaces.
• Education can substitute for experience; transcripts must be submitted.
• Combination of education and experience acceptable; provide transcript if used.
• Time-in-grade and federal service requirements apply and must be documented.

Responsibilities

• Consults, advises, plans and designs all spaces in new or renovated construction areas.
• Develops and directs planning and scheduling of interior improvement projects.
• Uses judgment and diplomacy to resolve design issues with various stakeholders.
• Maintains a comprehensive resource library of interior design literature.
• Prepares equipment and furniture listings for major renovations and management needs.
• Analyzes and develops cost estimates for furnishings and construction.
• Maintains relationships with vendors, contractors and VA staff.
• Ensures compliance with VA requirements, standards and privacy acts.
• Influences design from conception through activation with user requirements.
• Acts as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for furnishings and construction costs.
