Avalon Rehab & Care Center in Wayne, NJ is seeking a dependable, hands-on Healthcare Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our team full-time. You will help maintain a safe, comfortable healthcare environment and support resident safety and quality of life.

The ideal candidate has experience in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, or similar settings and can perform basic repairs, preventive tasks, and respond to maintenance requests from multiple departments.

Qualifications

• Previous maintenance experience in a healthcare facility is strongly preferred, including hospitals or nursing centers.
• Experience with general building maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
• Familiarity with the safety needs of an occupied healthcare environment.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, painting, carpentry, and common repairs.
• Understanding of workplace safety and infection prevention practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize requests.
• Dependable, organized, and able to work with clinical and nonclinical departments.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily maintenance and preventative tasks throughout the facility.
• Respond to maintenance requests from nursing, environmental services, and admin.
• Perform basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, drywall repairs, and general building work.
• Help maintain resident rooms, hallways, common areas, and bathrooms.
• Support facility inspections and identify safety and repair needs.
• Maintain safe, clean maintenance shop and work areas.
• Follow safety procedures and infection prevention practices.
• Assist with emergency maintenance needs and special projects.
• Collaborate with maintenance leadership to ensure resident safety and comfort.

Avalon Rehab & Care Center in Wayne, NJ, is seeking a dependable, hands‑on Healthcare Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our team full‑time!

We are looking for someone who understands the importance of maintaining a safe, functional, and comfortable healthcare environment.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, long‑term care center, rehabilitation facility, or similar healthcare setting and takes pride in keeping the building and its equipment in excellent working condition.

Schedule: Weekdays 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, 4 Hours required on weekend days and one day off midweek.

What You'll Do

• Assist with daily maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance throughout the facility.
• Respond to maintenance requests from nursing, environmental services, administration, and other departments.
• Perform basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, drywall repairs, and general building maintenance.
• Help maintain resident rooms, hallways, common areas, offices, bathrooms, and other facility spaces.
• Assist with facility inspections and help identify maintenance, safety, and repair needs.
• Support the upkeep of building systems, equipment, doors, fixtures, lighting, and furniture.
• Help prepare resident rooms for new admissions and room changes.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized maintenance shop and work areas.
• Follow facility safety procedures, infection prevention practices, and applicable healthcare facility protocols.
• Assist with emergency maintenance needs and other facility projects as assigned.
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Maintenance and facility leadership to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications

• Previous maintenance experience in a healthcare facility is strongly preferred, including hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, or assisted living communities.
• Experience with general building maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
• Familiarity with the unique maintenance and safety needs of an occupied healthcare environment.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, painting, carpentry, and common building repairs.
• Understanding of workplace safety and infection prevention practices.
• Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize requests.
• Dependable, organized, and comfortable working with clinical and nonclinical departments.
• Ability to perform physical maintenance tasks, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting as required.
