Job summary

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking a Billing Clerk in the School of Medicine / Clinical Affairs. This full-time position handles patient registration, insurance verification, posting payments, and EMR data entry.

Ideal candidate has high school diploma, at least two years clerical/workflow experience, and knowledge of HIPAA compliance. Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred; on-site work across the Rio Grande Valley.

Qualifications

• Two years of general office or clerical experience.
• One year of medical, hospital, or healthcare billing experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers new patients by collecting demographics and third-party coverage for encounters from EMR systems.
• Obtains and verifies insurance coverage for patients per health plan guidelines.
• Posts payments and adjustments in the EMR system daily and reconciles them for the CBO.
• Updates/corrects patient demographics and insurance emergency contact information from EMR systems.
• Assists Billing Specialists with printing medical records and scanning information into EMR system.
