Job summary

VIVA USA Inc. is seeking an American Sign Language (ASL) Medical Interpreter for on-site work in Providence, Rhode Island. The role focuses on accurate ASL interpretation between patients and clinical staff, ensuring patient privacy and adherence to HIPAA.

The ideal candidate has ASL and English fluency, healthcare interpretation experience, and a relevant interpreter training program. PRN/as-needed, onsite work with flexible scheduling may apply.

Qualifications

• Fluent ASL and English required.
• Completion of an interpreter training program from an accredited institution.
• Experience in healthcare or patient-care settings preferred.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate ASL interpretation between patients, providers, caregivers, and clinical staff.
• Facilitate communication during medical examinations and treatments.
• Interpret complex medical conversations including diagnoses, medications, and care coordination.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA.
• Promote accessibility for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients.
• Provide simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation as needed.
• Collaborate with care teams and administrative staff to support patient care.
• Interpret written healthcare documents when required.
