Job summary

UW Health's University Hospital in Madison is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to manage daily unit operations and support patients and staff. This 0.80 FTE role covers day/evening shifts in a 32-hour week with varied start times and weekend/holiday rotations.

You will answer phones, organize files, manage supplies, and assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges while keeping electronic health records accurate and up to date.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• 1 year of experience in a medical or customer service environment required.
• 1 year of experience in a medical environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and facilitate the day-to-day operations of a unit.
• Answer phones, organize files, order supplies, handle correspondence, manage databases, and provide general support to patients, family members and staff.
• Collaborate with the clinical team to coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records and perform clerical duties.

Work Schedule

0.80 FTE, 32 hours per week. This is a Day/Evening position. Position has a mix of 8 and 12 hour shifts, 7am-7:30pm, 7am-3:30pm, or 3pm-11:30pm. This position also has a one in every third weekend rotation and a holiday rotation. Hours may vary based on operational needs of department. You will work at University Hospital in Madison, WI.

Health unit coordinator's play a key role on each unit, by providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for patients, families, and visitors.

We are seeking a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to:

• Manage and facilitate the day-to-day operations of a unit.
• Answer phones, organize files, order supplies, handle correspondence, manage databases, and provide general support to patients, family members and other staff. You are often considered the backbone of the unit, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and efficiently.
• Utilize excellent communication and organizational skills to support patient care.
• Collaborate with the clinical team to coordinate all aspects of patient care including patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Use high level of attention to detail to maintain accurate electronic health records and perform other duties of a clerical nature.
