Job summary

Shriners Children's Ohio is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to join the inpatient unit on a PRN basis. The position requires a High School Diploma or GED and BLS certification; HUC certification and prior healthcare experience are preferred. On-site coverage for 12-hour shifts as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology are preferred.
• Previous HUC experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Manage the inpatient nursing unit communication center with courteous, effective, and timely communication.
• Process admissions, discharges, transfers, patient registrations, and insurance information.
• Ensure records are complete and accurate for patient billing and audits.
• Notify staff during emergencies, admissions, and discharges.
• Provide assistance to nursing staff as needed.

Our top healthcare professionals excel in their practices and provide compassionate, family-centered care to children who need it most. **Hours:** This is a PRN position and the individual would work 12 hour shifts on an as needed basis to cover PTO. **Key Responsibilities:** * The Health Unit Coordinator manages the communication center of the inpatient nursing units, communicating courteously, effectively, and efficiently with all customers.* Completes clinical information system and patient record responsibilities including admission, discharge, and transfers, patient registration, obtaining and updating insurance information; ensures that records are complete and accurate to allow for patient billing.* Ensures nursing staff is aware of patient needs communicated to the HUC through the nurse call system.* Notifies appropriate staff during emergency situations, acute admissions, and discharges.* Provides assistance as needed to the nursing staff. **Required Qualifications:*** High School Diploma / GED* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification**Preferred Qualifications:*** Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) certification* Experience in a healthcare setting and medical terminology* Previous HUC experienceCompensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
