Job description

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) supports the provision of patient care using telehealth technologies, which increase a Veteran's access to care and support a Veteran's self-management. This includes developing and delivering virtual and digital technologies that help Veterans communicate synchronously and asynchronously with their healthcare teams, as well as coordinate, track, and manage their healthcare.

Duties

The incumbent performs a full range of duties and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of telehealth services at the assigned location and between the assigned location and remote sites of care. The incumbent may receive guidance from more experienced staff members and may provide guidance to less experienced staff members but requires minimal direct supervision. Assignments associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Managing telehealth services operations
  2. Supporting technical setup and maintenance of telehealth equipment
  3. Coordinating with healthcare teams and patients for telehealth appointments
  4. Providing training and guidance to staff and patients on telehealth technologies
Requirements
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency: A candidate must be proficient in written and spoken English to serve in a patient-care capacity.
  • Experience and Education:

Options include:

  • One year of experience in a healthcare field demonstrating the ability to perform the work or understanding of the work, such as a medical or clinical assistant or technician.
  • Four academic years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with relevant courses.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education, such as six months of healthcare experience plus two years of relevant coursework or an associate's degree.

Grandfathering Provision: May qualify based on current employment and meeting specific criteria.

Grade Determinations

Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical), GS-6

To qualify at this level, candidates must meet experience and KSAs:

  • One year of experience at the GS-5 level, including scheduling telehealth appointments, documenting patient information, preparing telehealth rooms, and maintaining equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities such as computer proficiency, communication skills, ability to provide guidance, organizational skills, interpret complex instructions, knowledge of clinical policies, and proficiency with telehealth technologies.
Preferred Experience
  • Clinical experience, ability to learn and use technology, strong problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Physical Requirements

The work involves physical exertion such as standing, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, stretching, and lifting moderately heavy items. Travel between VA and/or Non-VA sites may be required, and a valid driver’s license may be necessary.
