Job summary

Indian Health Service in Albuquerque, NM seeks a Health Technician (Optometry) to support the Optometry Clinic by greeting patients, retrieving medical history, and preparing exam rooms.

You will perform routine vision screening, lensometry, color vision tests, and assist the provider during exams, including scheduling follow-ups and coordinating school vision screenings. A REAL ID will be required and immunization policy applies.

• Department: Department of Health and Human Services

This position is located within the Optometry Clinic at the Albuquerque Service Unit, located in beautiful Albuquerque, NM. This position will support the Optometry Clinic by performing a variety of routine and established ophthalmic technical support. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Performs routine vision screening and auxiliary testing including visual acuity testing, lensometry, color vision resting and depth perception screening.

Assist the provider during patient examinations by preparing equipment, positioning patients, obtaining supplies and entering information as directed. Provides routing instructions to patients and assist patients with basic contact lens and eyeglass handling. Assist with scheduling and coordination of follow-up appointments and assist with vision screening in schools.
