Job summary

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries seeks a Health Services Office Coordinator to provide comprehensive support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, combining duties of Direct Support Professional, Medication Technician and Wellness Advocate.

You will coordinate off-site support, maintain documentation and ensure safety, health and well-being in developmental services programs, while collaborating with the RN and care teams.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • State-tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
  • Certification in medication administration required.
  • Willing to pursue wellness advocacy certification/training in the first year.
  • Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Non-profit provider experience valued.
  • Must pass criminal background checks and registry checks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing job training, employment placement, and support services for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. With a focus on empowering individuals to achieve greater independence and inclusion in the community, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been serving the Greater Cincinnati area for over 100 years.

The Health Services Office Coordinator will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities combining the duties of Direct Support Professional, Medication Technician and Wellness Advocate to ensure the well-being, safety and quality of life for all individuals participating in Developmental Services programming at Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries. This position will also coordinate support and materials for the off sites.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:

18 years or older-

Minimum of High school diploma or GED.

State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Additional certification in medication administration and/or relevant delegated training as required by the state of Ohio, the Ohio Board of Nursing and the Department of Developmental Disabilities.

Willing to pursue certification/additional training related to wellness advocacy in the first year of employment.

EXPERIENCE

Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.

Experience in non-profit provider settings highly valued.

Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation and applicable registry checks.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced, actively developing work environment.

KNOWLEDGE

Must be able to understand and effectively communicate the English language in written and verbal format.

Knowledge and training in Ohio State/DDS/department required Behavior Support and Crisis Intervention.

Must be able to properly measure and report metrics related to participant services.

CPR, First AID certification obtained/maintained.

Must be able to participate and understand all of the organizational Emergency Procedures.

Must possess excellent judgement skills and be skilled in protecting the health, safety and well-being of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities participating in integrated employment settings.

Therapeutic communication skills and case management experience is beneficial.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Responsibilities Include:
  • Maintain an environment that is healthy, safe, peaceful and comfortable.
  • Administers medication in accordance with orders and within the guidelines set by the state of Ohio, Ohio Board of Nursing Delegation Nursing Tasks and DDS.
  • Gains and maintains knowledge of medical and health issues for all assigned program participants.
  • Notifies appropriate supervisor/delegating nurse of any health concerns or needs for the participants supported according to HIPAA, State of Ohio, federal laws and guidelines.
  • Follows all agency policy and procedure.
  • Aids participants with ADL’s.
  • Incorporates time, space and opportunity for privacy in the care of participants supported.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all personal and medical information concerning participants supported.
  • Understands and advocates for the rights and respect of participants supported.
  • Treats participants, families, coworkers and supervisors with dignity, professional behavior and respect.
  • Develops and facilitates appropriate community connections and relationships.
  • Networks with coworkers, the community, participants served and other professionals to advocate for services and inclusion across life activities.
  • Takes initiative in performing additional tasks as assigned.
  • Provides clear, accurate and timely records and documentation.
  • Provides positive and appropriate feedback when communicating internally and externally.
  • Participates in and completes periodic training and certification as required.
  • Attends and participates in assigned meetings, shares ideas and contributes to discussions openly, respectfully, honestly and professionally.
  • Reports all instances of abuse, neglect, mistreatment, exploitation, unusual incident and major unusual incident per policy guideline in a timely manner as identified in policy.
  • Conducts self in the community in a way that enhances the image of participants served and the agency.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of wellness programs and initiative targeting participant population.
  • Carries out program activities aimed at improving participants well-being and overall health.
  • Conduct evaluations to identify participant strengths, challenges and goals related comprehensive wellness.
  • Creates and keeps precise and orderly records, ensuring prompt input of information into specified reporting systems.
  • Initial point of contact for health concerns with participant population with support from delegating RN.
  • Collaborate with participant support teams on plans, medications and programming related the health needs of participants.
