With a focus on empowering individuals to achieve greater independence and inclusion in the community, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been serving the Greater Cincinnati area for over 100 years.

The DSP - Health Services will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities combining the duties of Direct Support Professional, Medication Technician and Wellness Advocate to ensure the well-being, safety and quality of life for all individuals participating in Developmental Services programming at Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Twenty-One years or older -

Minimum of High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

Preference may be given to applicants with more experience. Preference may be given for prior experience in the DD field and /or Bachelor’s degree with experience working within a DD service delivery system.

Must be able to pass criminal background investigations and various registry and database checks

Must pass DMV check, pass road test, DOT physical and pre‑employment drug and alcohol test and random testing throughout employment.

Will be required to do Delegated Nursing Training to be able to administer medication in accordance within guidelines

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of proper positive behavior support principles and crisis intervention.
  • Training in CPR, CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention); First Aid and Goodwill’s Emergency Procedures.
  • Must be able to clearly and accurately communicate comprehensive information about participant worksite behaviors to staff.
  • Must possess superior judgement skills in order to ensure the health, safety and well‑being of adults with developmental disabilities in independent settings.
  • Must be able to participate and understand all of the organizational Emergency Procedures.
  • Proficiency using electronic tablet, Microsoft Office suite/Outlook
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Maintain an environment that is healthy, safe, peaceful and comfortable.
  • Administers medication in accordance with orders and within the guidelines set by the state of Ohio, Ohio Board of Nursing Delegation Nursing Tasks and DDS.
  • Gains and maintains knowledge of medical and health issues for all assigned program participants.
  • Notifies appropriate supervisor/delegating nurse of any health concerns or needs for the participants supported according to HIPAA, State of Ohio, federal laws and guidelines.
  • Follows all agency policy and procedure.
  • Aids participants with ADL’s.
  • Incorporates time, space and opportunity for privacy in the care of participants supported.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all personal and medical information concerning participants supported.
  • Understands and advocates for the rights and respect of participants supported.
  • Treats participants, families, coworkers and supervisors with dignity, professional behavior and respect.
  • Develops and facilitates appropriate community connections and relationships.
  • Networks with coworkers, the community, participants served and other professionals to advocate for services and inclusion across life activities.
  • Takes initiative in performing additional tasks as assigned.
  • Provides clear, accurate and timely records and documentation.
  • Provides positive and appropriate feedback when communicating internally and externally.
  • Participates in and completes periodic training and certification as required.
  • Attends and participates in assigned meetings, shares ideas and contributes to discussions openly, respectfully, honestly and professionally.
  • Reports all instances of abuse, neglect, mistreatment, exploitation, unusual incident and major unusual incident per policy guideline in a timely manner as identified in policy.
  • Conducts self in the community in a way that enhances the image of participants served and the agency.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of wellness programs and initiative targeting participant population.
  • Carries out program activities aimed at improving participants well‑being and overall health.
  • Conduct evaluations to identify participant strengths, challenges and goals related comprehensive wellness.
  • Creates and keeps precise and orderly records, ensuring prompt input of information into specified reporting systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
PERIODICAL DUTIES:
  • Attend annual IP, special team, and caseload reviews on an as needed basis.
  • Provide back‑up coverage for other staff.
  • Non‑violent crisis intervention as needed.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:

1. Assist in the safe and efficient evacuation of individuals with physical disabilities in the event of a fire or other emergency situation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be able to move around the facility and the community and assist participants to access these environments in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to complete paperwork both written and electronic and perform telephone communication related to work needs.
  • Full Time 40‑hour work week; part‑time up to 29 hours. Various schedule at times.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of providing personal assistance to participants.
  • Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • Able to work during lunch time hours if required by department.
