Job summary

Canfor seeks a Health, Safety & Training (HST) Advisor to organize and deliver safety, on-the-job, operational, and values training for all plant employees. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will collaborate with the Management team on site to support a safe, compliant workplace.

You will lead safety programs, conduct mill safety reviews and audits, maintain training records, and advise on OSHA regulations while fostering strong employee relations and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of training & development experience in health/safety
  • Experience in Safety Programs
  • Working knowledge of web-based applications and Microsoft Office
  • Champion of safety and SME in OSHA regulations and best practices
  • College degree in Business or related field preferred, with safety coursework

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate safety and operational orientation for new hires ensuring training requirements are met
  • Collaborate with staff to develop career development plans and training needs
  • Conduct mill safety reviews, investigations, and audits for compliance with safety directives
  • Lead safety practices, chair safety committee meetings, and promote safety participation
  • Provide guidance and training for trainers and support employee relations
  • Coordinate environmental responsibilities with Canfor’s environmental team

As the Health, Safety & Training (HST) Advisor, you will be responsible for organizing and arranging safety, on-the-job, operational, and values training for all plant employees. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will have an interactive role with the Management team while providing support for all employees on the site.

The life of theHealth, Safety & Training (HST) Advisorincludes:

  • Facilitate safety and operational orientation for new hires, ensuring compliance with training requirements.
  • Collaborate with employees and management to develop and maintain career development plans and training needs.
  • Conduct mill safety reviews, investigations, and audits, monitoring compliance with corporate safety directives.
  • Lead divisional safety practices, including chairing safety committee meetings and promoting participation in health and safety practices.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support for trainers, while fostering excellent employee relations and addressing inquiries about policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate environmental responsibilities, including conducting tests and samples, maintaining records, and supporting audits in collaboration with Canfor’s environmental team.

For this role, come equipped with:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in training & development in a health and/or safety role.
  • Safety management experience would be an asset (e.g., Enablon)
  • Experience in managing Safety Programs
  • Working knowledge of web-based computer applications and Microsoft Office
  • The ability to be a champion of safety at all times and a subject matter expert in OSHA regulations and safety best practices

In a perfect world, you also have a college degree in Business or an industrial-related field, along with additional safety coursework. Industrial manufacturing experience is also considered an asset.
