Title: Health/Safety & Nutrition Manager

Reports to: Senior Director of Early Childhood Education

Supervisor Responsibilities: Yes

Location: CYC Wabash Headquarters Center at 218 S. Wabash Ave (Chicago, IL)

Schedule: 8:30a - 5:00p; Monday - Friday; schedule varies depending on program needs

Purpose: The Health/Safety & Nutrition Manager carries out the program standards as related to the Health-Safety/Nutrition component of the Early Learning Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the Health-Safety/Nutrition plans developed in accordance with the Head Start performance standards and Chicago Early Learning Implementation Standards, and other licensing entities .
  • Manage training and procedures related to Emergency Preparedness, Risk Management OSHA Procedures.
  • Assist in the management of the Child and Adult Food Program. Review/audit monthly food report and claims.
  • Assess the health status and nutritional needs of children and their families, including referral and counseling services, if indicated
  • Manage all data and compliance related to health/nutrition component of the Program Information Report.
  • Train and advise center staff responsible for the health/nutrition program on issues related to component policies and procedures
  • Ensure parent involvement in the health/nutrition program through planning comprehensive education programs for parents at each center
  • Promote the need for quality and accessible overall health/nutrition services within the Early Learning program and community at large
  • Evaluate the overall health/nutrition services program with parents and staff including the preparation of statistical and narrative reports on the status of children’s care
  • Collaborate with DFSS/CSD to plan functional activities for assigned centers
  • Review menus to ensure they meet the USDA nutritional requirements for children ages 3-5
  • Manage the submission of partner site nutrition documentation to Nutrition Consultant
  • Represent the agency as a member of DFSS/CSD Health Services Advisory Council
  • Provide to newly hired Family Service Associates, Health Aides, Food Aides and other staff regarding the content areas.
  • Provide American Red Cross training classes for first aid, CPR, and mildly ill child
  • Manage all aspect of Food Manager Certifications and Food Handlers training.
  • Assist with Self-Assessment training and the Agency Peer review process.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education or related
  • 3-4 years of health-related experience
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to create policies and procedures
  • This position requires travel to various sites. Must have reliable transportation.
