Health & Safety Manager - ARTCO Line boats - St. Louis, MO

This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary:

Health and Safety (H&S) Professional (Pro): Based in the United States and reports to the Marine Health & Safety (H&S) Director. A Facility (H&S) Pro provides EHS leadership and support to their assigned ADM facility and vessels.

Position Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in development and review of health and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate regulations, including USCG and TSMS.
  2. Audit performance and compliance with policies and regulations; work closely with management to achieve safety action plan success. Provide leadership, guidance, mentoring, training, and public presentations as necessary.
  3. Advise the director and vessel management on the status of all Safety Action Plan actions, focusing on areas needing attention to achieve success.
  4. Build management and employee dedication and passion for safety through effective leadership and influence.
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs through monitoring and auditing.
  6. Maintain knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations; communicate requirements effectively and assist with their implementation.
  7. Lead, support, and encourage leading indicators tracked by KPIs.
  8. Provide leadership for safety reporting requirements in a safety management system.
  9. Act as a champion and mentor for colleague safety engagement, including Values Based (behavior) Safety.
  10. Perform and maintain safety training and records.
  11. Lead incident investigations and oversee injured colleague cases.
  12. Serve as liaison with governmental entities such as USCG, with knowledge of applicable regulations.
Environmental Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with stormwater, waste, asbestos, and pollution prevention plans, including inspections, training, and reporting.
  • Maintain environmental management system (EMS) records.
  • Use and manage environmental data systems.
  • Lead environmental management initiatives and promote continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate should have some knowledge of environmental regulations and programs.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; exceptional experience may waive this requirement.
  • At least five years of experience in environmental health and safety or a related degree.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft Office and quick adaptation to new systems.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Ability to recognize hazards, assess risks, and recommend controls.
  • Minimal travel required, sometimes on short notice.
  • Valid TWIC card or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including extreme heat and cold.
