Job summary

Canduct Industries in Youngstown, OH is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist to develop and continuously improve workplace health and safety programs, ensuring OSHA compliance within ISO-managed QMS, collaborating with leadership to promote proactive safety culture.

You will lead hazard analyses, training, incident investigations, and audits, organizing metrics and reports while advancing safety across manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety Management or a related field.
• Depth of OSHA and environmental regulation knowledge.
• 3+ years of manufacturing experience with safety and HR responsibilities.
• OSHA 30 or similar safety HR certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the facility's health and safety program.
• Develop and implement a robust Health & Safety Program to create a safe workplace.
• Oversee plant safety performance, including tracking metrics, injury reports, and safety compliance.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports for KPIs and other safety metrics.
• Ensure employees are trained to perform their tasks safely, including PPE standards.
• Conduct job hazard analyses for machinery to mitigate safety risks.
• Assist with safety training programs such as Lockout/Tagout and forklift operation.
• Manage incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain SDS records and Safety Data Sheets.
• Organize PPE inventory and safety supplies.
• Provide ongoing training to supervisors and Health & Safety Committee.
• Participate in equipment design reviews for OSHA compliance.
• Administer Workers' Compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
• Lead internal and external audits related to health and safety.

Job Summary

The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving workplace health and safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and applicable industry standards. This role supports health and safety processes within the organization's ISO-managed Quality Management System (QMS) and works collaboratively with leadership and employees to drive a proactive safety culture. This role will engage employees as active participants in hazard identification, risk reduction, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives while promoting accountability, compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the facility's health and safety program.
• Develop and implement a robust Health & Safety Program to create a safe workplace.
• Oversee plant safety performance, including tracking metrics, injury reports, and safety compliance.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports for KPIs and other safety metrics.
• Ensure employees are trained to perform their tasks efficiently and safely, including proper equipment use and PPE standards.
• Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) for various types of machinery to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
• Assist with safety training programs such as Lockout/Tagout, WHMIS, and forklift operation.
• Manage incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain hazardous product records and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Organize and monitor PPE inventory and health and safety supplies.
• Provide ongoing training to supervisors, Health & Safety Committee (HSC), and employees.
• Participate in equipment design reviews, ensuring compliance with OSHA and applicable standards.
• Administer Worker's Compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and injury case management.
• Lead internal and external audits related to health and safety.
• Stay updated on legislative changes and ensure compliance across the organization.
• Represent the company during potential OSHA visits and regulatory inspections.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience:

• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety Management or a related field.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA and environmental legislation.
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally with combined safety and HR responsibilities.
• Safety certification (OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, etc.) or HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus.

• Able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative
• Strong facilitation skills with the ability to lead group discussions effectively.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and comfortable learning HRIS
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
