Job summary

St. Joseph County Department of Health – CARE Unit seeks a Health Promotion Specialist to create and implement health education materials and activities. You will lead programs on substance use, mental health, chronic disease and elder care, coordinating with schools, workplaces, and community groups to reduce health risks.

You will develop materials, coordinate events, and maintain up-to-date knowledge to support department goals and community needs, with accommodations as needed for applicants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public health education or related field required, with two years' experience as a Health Promotion Specialist/education preferred.
• Certification of Health Education Specialist preferred but not required.
• Ability to plan and deliver public speaking presentations and special events.

Responsibilities

• Incumbent applies standard departmental practices and policies to individual situations, with departures from guidelines and instructions discussed with supervisor.
• Creates health education materials, both physical and digital, for distribution to the public.
• Leads and facilitates the creation, printing, and delivery of health education materials, including flyers, brochures, stickers, logos, buttons, and pdfs.
• Develops and presents educational programs for local schools and daycares, workplaces, health fairs, community organizations, and County employees to provide information and assistance in identifying, understanding, and preventing environmental health hazards and chronic disease health risks.
• Coordinates logistics for host site and staff, including outreach to community organizations, planning event details, and evaluating events.
• Maintains current knowledge on health topics and assists in planning, developing, and implementing health education materials, programs, and services in accordance with community needs and Department goals.

Education
