Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in public health, health promotion, sciences, social sciences or other health-related field.
  • Domestic Violence CJIS fingerprint-based background check; disqualification for certain felonies and offenses.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Sufficient knowledge of public health laws, regulations, and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer and related software.

Responsibilities

  • Implements evidence-based prevention initiatives to help the community improve and maintain their health.
  • May conduct field outreach to participate in community initiatives.
  • Maintains relationships with community and partner organizations regarding health initiatives.
  • Interviews persons to determine demographic, medically relevant information, and risk factor data.
  • Contacts physicians, hospitals, and medical laboratories to obtain patient information.
  • Counsels patients concerning risk reduction and behavior modification.
  • Collects data for use in planning and evaluating the effectiveness of public health education programs.
  • Provides public health education to individuals.
  • Serves as an education and information resource to the public on health and public health issues.
  • May assist in collecting and preparing materials in response to public health information and report requests.
  • May train personnel.

Labor On Demand has openings for Health Program Specialist I

Under direction, is responsible for performing routine public health work in one of several public health programs. Work involves planning and developing public health education program activities and providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, and community organizations. The work is generally investigative, regulatory, educational, and consultative in nature. Exercises no supervision.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Implements evidence-based prevention initiatives to help the community improve and maintain their health.
  • May conduct field outreach to participate in community initiatives.
  • Maintains relationships with community and partner organizations regarding health initiatives.
  • Interviews persons to determine demographic, medically relevant information, and risk factor data.
  • Contacts physicians, hospitals, and medical laboratories to obtain patient information.
  • Counsels patients concerning risk reduction and behavior modification.
  • Collects data for use in planning and evaluating the effectiveness of public health education programs.
  • Conducts data entry.
  • Provides public health education to individuals.
  • Serves as an education and information resource to the public on health and public health issues for the community.
  • May assist in collecting and preparing materials in response to public health information and report requests.
  • May train personnel.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in public health, health promotion, sciences, social sciences or other health-related field.
  • DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC: Domestic Violence Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

  • Knowledge of current public health programs, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of public health laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to interpret public health laws and regulations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to document clearly and concisely pertinent information.
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to deliver formal presentations to small and large groups.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.
  • Ability to comply with all OSHA regulations and current immunization policies.
  • Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to work in an inside environment and out in the field.
Working Environment:

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computer equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.

Physical Demands:

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of up to 50 pounds, visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are both inside and outside with exposure to temperature extremes, a warehouse environment, dust, and high-level noises.
