Health Paraprofessional Substitute
Under the direction of the District Licensed School Nurse, this position is responsible for helping with first aid, assisting students that are ill, medication administration, student supervision and administrative duties in the health office when the regular health paraprofessional is absent. Substitute positions are available at multiple locations, up to 7.5 hours per day.
Responsibilities
- Provide first aid and emergency care to students according to healthcare provider orders and/or district policies. Follow up with the district nurse, parents and/or staff as applicable.
- Administer medication to students as prescribed by a healthcare provider and authorized by the parent/guardian.
- Maintain student health records by documenting first aid and interventions provided in the electronic health record.
- Perform general office duties such as answering phone calls, typing, sorting, and maintaining files and records.
Qualifications
- Current certification in first aid, CPR and AED use, or willingness to receive training.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with students, parents, and staff through positive communication skills.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn about the management of chronic health conditions including type one diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, and food allergies.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Normal office environment.
- Will work independently in the health office under the training and supervision of the District Licensed School Nurse.
- Frequent contact with children who are ill or injured.
- Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must be physically capable of responding to an emergency, performing CPR and other rescue maneuvers.
