California Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero seeks a Health Record Technician I to support the Health Information Management Department by performing structured record handling, coding, and abstracting under supervision.

Responsibilities include on-unit documentation review, chart maintenance, and preparing data for release of information. Travel within the hospital may be required; position is in-office and full-time for a 12-month term.

Qualifications

• Eligibility to apply includes reachable on a certification list, transfer eligibility, or reinstatement eligibility.
• No exam required at present; a new exam is in-process and will be posted when available.

Responsabilités

• Travel to/from and perform duties on all treatment units in the secured hospital area.
• Review on-unit documentation, chart maintenance, thinning, and filing.
• Assign ICD-10 codes per ICD-10-CM guidelines and abstract data from various sources.
• Assist with release of information and respond to SSA and Sacramento HIS requests.
• Review records for deficiencies at discharge or court, and coordinate completion with staff.
