Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking a Records Technician to support vital health information management tasks. This role involves scanning, indexing, and filing medical records, maintaining logs, and responding to information requests.

The position requires compliance with privacy regulations and may include a 24/7 work schedule. Qualified candidates will have education and/or experience appropriate for GS‑5 or GS‑6 levels, with emphasis on accurate record handling and HIPAA/compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience in health information management support functions.
• Ability to review medical records for completeness and accuracy.
• Experience with scanning, indexing, and filing medical documentation.
• Knowledge of Privacy requirements and release of information processes.

Responsibilities

• Scan, index, and file non-electronic medical and administrative information.
• Maintain daily log of scanned, filed, and indexed documents.
• Respond to information requests in a positive and efficient manner.
• Perform quality checks on scanned records and processes.

Education

GS‑5: 4 years of education above high school

GS‑5 – Experience: 1 year of specialized experience

GS‑5 – Combining Education and Experience

GS‑6: 1 year of specialized experience at GS‑5
