Job summary

Birmingham OB/Gyn is seeking a highly organized Health Information & Electronic Records Specialist to join our team. This role ensures patient health information is received, organized, routed, retrieved, and released accurately and efficiently across our practice.

You will coordinate electronic and paper records, work with our electronic health record and external partners, and look for ways to improve workflows while maintaining patient privacy and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in medical records or health information preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Comfort with learning new technology and healthcare systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage incoming patient records and documents received electronically and on paper.
• Review, organize, index, and route patient information to the appropriate location or team.
• Maintain patient information within the electronic health record.
• Use electronic fax and document-management tools to transmit patient information.
• Coordinate medical records requests with outside health information management partner.
• Verify appropriate authorization before releasing patient information when handled internally.
• Identify and resolve duplicate, incomplete, or misrouted information.
• Assist clinicians and staff in locating necessary patient information.
